Frequently Asked Questions

Are your services covered by insurance? Most of my services and programs are now private pay, due to the artificial constraints of most insurance plans. This allows me to work with you at the frequency and intensity that is required, while maintaining maximum freedom to support you. In many cases, you can draw funds from a Health Care Spending Account. I can also provide a superbill if you wish to seek reimbursement for SLP services, as part of an out of network benefit. You are responsible for consulting with your insurance plan to determine if you have out of network benefits. In limited circumstances, you may be able to receive SLP services through your insurance plan for the time being.

How many sessions will I need? Due to the highly personalized nature of each person’s treatment program, there is not a single answer to this question. Progress is influenced by factors like the underlying problems, your dedication to the program, and your consistency. In general, many infants and young children come between 4-10 times, adults a bit less than that. What I can promise is to:
-
Set functional goals with you so you know what we are working toward.
-
Give you an honest appraisal of your progress each session, and
-
Keep an open dialogue about your program so we can make changes as needed

Are payment plans available? Yes. This is also based on your situation. You always have the option to pay session by session, or to purchase a series or package that allows for multiple sessions or hours. Once purchased, hours do not expire. You use them until they are gone. Other payment options may be considered on an individual basis and at my sole discretion.

Do you guarantee your results? No, it would be unethical to guarantee anything. Successful outcomes are the result of a reciprocal relationship with equal effort from both you as the client and me as the practitioner. Your commitment to your program combined with my clinical experience and skills will help move you forward toward your goals. If you are unhappy with your progress, I am happy to chat with you and strategize about changes. Refunds are limited and at my sole discretion.

Why should you choose my practice? Let’s face it, you have a lot of options when it comes to where you spend money on your health and wellness. I am here to help, to support you in reaching your goals and feeling better. Over 30 years, I have invested significant time, energy and resources to construct a rich toolbox to support and guide you. I promise to be your partner and coach, and to do my best to make your trust in me worthwhile.

I am concerned about my child’s development, what should I do next? First, trust your intuition. Second, take steps to get help and to get your questions answered. Contact me or book a consult where we can discuss your concerns and I can help you come up with questions to share with your pediatrician. Becoming a good advocate is an important skill.

My pediatrician says my child does not have a tongue tie/lip tie, but others have said he does. How do I navigate this? Tongue ties have been around for a long time, but they are a source of controversy these days. My best suggestion is to suggest an evaluation with a therapist who deeply understands oral motor function who can guide you through the process of advocacy, evaluation and treatment if needed. Not every child who has oral restriction needs to be released, and the timing of release is critical. A comprehensive evaluation looks beyond the visible structure to consider how your child is functioning for critical tasks like feeding. Reach out for more information. What is Craniosacral Therapy? How does it work? Can it help me or my child? Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle hands-on modality. Using light pressure unlike massage or chiropractic, CST can do three primary things:
-
Ease or release patterns of tension and restriction in the fascia, which moves through the whole body
-
Activate and enhance your body’s own self-healing skills and
-
Assist with regulation of the nervous system, which is the foundation for health and good brain function.
-
CST can address many different medical and developmental challenges, and it can be an important part of your therapeutic program. For more information, go to www.Uplegder.com, or reach out for a deeper conversation about your specific questions and concerns.

Do you do intensives? Yes, this is a new offering for my practice. Intensives allow for a deeper dive into your challenges, and the core dysfunction that holds your pain or restriction in place. Designed in partnership with you, intensives can look like shorter sessions every day for a period of time, or like a half or full day or weekend retreat. Both have value. For half or full day retreats, your CST work may be combined with other bodywork modalities or include journaling, nervous system regulation work or whatever is needed for your progress. Reach out to me to discuss an intensive, including goals, format and costs.
